A FANTASTIC introduction to the entire MLP franchise. Where everypony starts their journey. First of all, this kind of Twilight is something I definitely miss as I watch the series further and further. Beginning Twilight is best Twilight. I really loved how they actually portrayed what a friendless person making friends is like – a pain in the ass. “I don’t need friends” is a very common sentiment among edgy teens and well, Twilight is basically that tbh. But she learns how special and important it is to have friends through experiences – it’s really nice to watch! Also Rainbow jumping on the cloud was very cute. It isn’t all great though. When I first watched the show, I was just sitting there enjoying it. But now rewatching it, I realise just how incredible inconsistent the production quality was. Rarity’s horn is not drawn properly, Twilight’s very strange expressions and just general weird looks that don’t appear in future seasons.
Snarky Twilight is best Twilight. This episode was good, I liked it quite a bit because Twily had to make an important decision under the pressure of her friends. I feel like it was an important lesson at the end and though it did end with deus ex celestia “Oh hey here’s the other tickets for the gala!”, it had already been decided by Twily that she was not gonna go; aka it didn’t replace the solution to the moral of making tough decisions between friends, it was just an add-on at the end of the episode.
I think this is one of the most important Applejack episodes in the entire series. The moral is great though it felt like they were juggling two morals at the same time; one where AJ learns to not overwork herself and the other where she learns to rely on others. These are different morals but the show kinda shows the first one but tells the second one, ya get what i mean? It feels a bit... disjointed and messy. And also you can really tell the quality difficiency in the first season but I’ll cut em some slack since it’s just the beginning.
Liked this episode quite a bit. I heard a few complaints on how the episode was predictable with Rainbow Dash (and not Pinkie) making the party but to be honest, I truly completely did not expect it the first time I watched this. It’s good but the first part felt a bit... unnecessary. Maybe it was to showcase that she’s annoying to Rainbow and others but it was a bit long and we already know that she’s annoying to her friends. Still a fun episode nonetheless.
Winter Wrap Up; one of the first episodes where everypony sings along and it has one of my favourite MLP songs which bears the same name. A very fun episode.
Was there even any question? Also introduction to the Rainbow Factory. This episode is probably one of the best in the entirety of the series. An absolutely stunning display of character growth for Rarity which felt very in-character and real with an incredibly excellent show of Rainbow’s talent and her loyalty. Everything in this episode was spot-on from the humour to the tense moments. Just, fantastic.
This was a really fun episode though I wouldn’t say good. A lot of things didn’t make much sense like why were the mane 6 passing it on between each other and acting all suspicious instead of just having one pickup the cake and make it part of their routine; they know Pinkie lives in cake corner and they know that Pinkie asked each of them. Nonetheless, I’d give this an 8 because seeing Pinkie depressed af was just very fun and her change in character fit her very well.
One of the few single-episode endings, this is a great conclusion to the entire series that I sorely miss from the rest of the seasons. No giant fight, no crazy villain, just the Mane 6 having a bad night at the Gala. I really liked how the Gala was portrayed as the worst night ever, it adds a lot more depth than just them having fun. And the moral at the end of how having friends can make even the worst experiences great was very relatable, I really loved it.
